zion bulletWeb Hacking Incident Databse: Bi-annual report

ZION SECURITY and Breach together analyzed the detected vulnerabilities for the first half of 2009. We investigated the drivers for web hacking, which type of vulnerabilities hackers exploit and which kind of organizations are attacked most often.

Some key findings are:

  • Defacement, which combines both planting of malware and standard overt changes, remains the most common outcome of web attacks (28%). Leakage of information is a close second.
  • SQL Injection is the number one attack (19%). Authentication abuse was the second most active attack and remarkable is that CSRF rose to number five of most popular attacks.
  • Social networking sites emerged as the most targeted market with 19% of the incidents, and by this displacing government/law enforcement from the number one spot in 2008.
